STAR PATTERN

1. Yesterday

I found myself staring at a woman’s bag on the metro. It was covered in 5-pointed star pattern

‘Can you tessellate stars?’ I wondered. Piecing them together in my mind I saw a hexagonal shape appearing in the middle. Could I position three five pointed stars to make the resulting gap a perfect cube? Deep in thought, I frowned at the bag.

The woman frowned at me and got off.

2. Today

I woke up and played around with the idea.

I got a star…

And a cube…

And stuck them together…

But did it repeat? I re-drew it a bit more accurately…

And repeated it…

Close, but not quite. I tried again with a 6-point star…

There it was! My very own cube and star pattern! Thinking this might be a good pattern for my T-shirt prototype… or my own bag for people to stare at on the metro.

3. Tomorrow

I’m flying back home to see The Amazing World of M. C. Escher Exhibition at Dulwich Picture Gallery. I’ll be writing a blog article on it so keep your eyes peeled!
