Tessellation Art’s current exhibition is the first of its kind for Vinohradský Pivovar. Their recently refurbished event suite is part of  Vinohradský Pivovar’s ongoing project to support local art and culture organisations. Previously used for live music, the space is now available for a broader range of events. The exhibition is Vinohradský Pivovar’s first artistic collaboration. The long term artwork display is aimed to enhance the atmosphere of the event room, whilst simultaneously giving me the opportunity to exhibit my collection.

The Tessellation Art Exhibition Opening Party was held on 19th October to officially launch the exhibition. Speaking directly to the visitors, I was able to answer any questions they had about the artwork and the design and development process.

Me, explaining the wonder of tessellation! Me, explaining the wonder of tessellation!

The Opening Night gave me an opportunity to display some of my recent prototypes. During the last year, I have started to experiment with new materials and techniques. Instead of digitally printing my artwork onto canvas, I have started to explore the use of sheet acrylic. Digitally printing onto clear Plexiglass offers a translucent effect. Laser cutting can be used to engrave the surface of the plastic – or with several passes it can cut detailed paths.

Short animations and slideshows were projected to give visitors an insight into the geometric principals and design process behind my work. The slideshow comprised of a collection of photos from my discovery of tessellation in 2012, right up until present day. It included a range of my development work including: my first tessellation, lampshade workshop for kids, design markets, candle holders, engravings, tessellation weaving, anthropometric projections, laser cutting, LED lighting and interior design upholstery.

The animated videos gave an insight into how I create my artwork. This one explains the basic principles behind tessellation, the basis to all of my artwork:

The long term exhibition includes my most recent artwork series, Animal Heads, and my first artwork installation ‘Lightbox’.  You can find out more about these pieces of art at the following links on my blog. Or you can head down to Vinohradský Pivovar, Korunní 2506/106, 101 00 Praha 10 to check it out for yourself! The exhibition will be on display until February in the events room downstairs.

All of the artwork is available to buy at my online shop.

Please feel free to email me at tessellationart@gmail.com if you have any questions or feedback!

Happy Tessellating!

Chris 🙂
